Time to get your Burns on!

So, what is the definition of terror from the skies?
(answer in comment)

On January 23rd at A2 and 24th at Plus, we are having our Robbie Burns night dances. Will there be haggis? Probably. Will there be piping and poetry? Good chance. Will there be shortbread? Yes, at least at Plus. Will there be decorations, dancing and fun? Of course there will. We have visitors coming at Plus to fill out our hall. It's under construction, but not in a big way. Just the kitchen and ladies washroom. (They have taken over the mens now)

Come dance with us and our glorious callers and cuers!

Xmas newsletter reformatted

DECEMBER 2012

Another year has come and gone and as we look forward to Christmas, New Years, and the upcoming dance year, here are some insights.

Your executive has changed for the coming year:

Barry and Elaine Bentley have once again volunteered to take over the reigns as club President Couple.

Barbara and I will be on the executive as Past President couple.

Our new treasurers will be Don and Dianne Alan.

Acting as secretary couple for the club will be Debra and Paul Colvin.

The new Vice President couple will be Chuck Sheehan and Daphne Green.

Plus coordinator duties will be shared by Dave and Jenny Knee and Doug and Susan Hopkins.

Barry and Carol Scott will remain as A2 Coordinators.

Bert and Marilyn Koll will continue on as Social conveners keeping both dance nights supplied with the required necessities.

Our Fraser Valley Rep will once again be Marguerite Jordan.

Dancing will commence on January 3rd for the Plus Group and January 9th for A2 Group.

Our last night of regular dancing will be April 24th for A2 and April 25th for Plus.

There will be an A2 teach at Charles Rummel Hall for 5 Wednesdays in the month of May (May 1st to the 29th).

The number of dance nights for the A2 group is 16. The breakdown for packages is: (16 x $12) = $192 - $25 = $167 for each couple package with singles packages at $83.50 per person.

The number of dance nights for the Plus group is 17 and the breakdown for packages is:  (17 x $12) = $204 - $25 = $179 for each couple package with singles packages at $89.50 per person.

Once again we had a successful Toys for Tots Dance raising funds and supplying the Xmas Bureau will a host of Fine Toys for children of all ages. Congratulations to Barry and Elaine and all those that helped them put on this successful dance and to our callers Ray and Brent and our cuer Alison who donated their time. A thank you to Marg and Chuck who added their voices to the mix and a special thank you to all who came out in support of this worthy cause.

Robbie Burns nights will be held on January 23rd for the A2 night and January 24th for the plus night. Larry Gillott has graciously agreed to pipe in the Haggis for both nights again this year.

We are hoping that Jean Baird will once again give her eloquent recital of the Ode to the Haggis for the Plus night.

Valentine dances will be held on February 13th for the A2 group and February 14th for the Plus group. Brent has suggested that the Plus night have a special love theme night on Valentines Day.

We will celebrate our Easter dances on Wednesday March 27th and Thursday March 28th respectively for each dance night.

The Plus Coordinators will discuss with Brent the planning of any other theme night to compliment a special “Surprise” theme night sometime in April; the date has not been set as yet, what a surprise.

Christmas is usually the time of year that we count our Blessings. Our club is truly blessed with two of the best caller couples in the lower mainland in Ray and Christine Brendzy and Brent and

Therese Mawdsley. We are also extremely lucky to have a premiere cuer couple like Alison and Scott Hampton. Here’s wishing our cuer and caller family’s a very merry Christmas and the very best in the New Year. We all look forward to you keeping us on our toes and in the groove in the New Year.

Every year our non dance events promote the coming together of the dancers from both groups in an atmosphere of social camaraderie. This year Doug and Susan Hopkins have agreed to organize and run our Bowling night. We expect that it will be another fun night for both groups.

In April, Barry and Elaine will once again look at getting a pub night organized. It is our main fund raiser every year so start thinking about your donations for the silent auction and setting some time aside to attend this fun party.

In May we can look forward to our annual Golf Tournament and Banquet that George Bruschinsky has organized so wonderfully year after year. Here's hoping that he will again step up and do his magic.

Merry Christmas to all from your outgoing executive and may the New Year bring you health, happiness and prosperity.

See you on the dance floor

Display problems in IE9

Well this is sad. Internet Explorer 9 does not display the blog properly. I will explore options to fix the blog. In the meantime, you can use Chrome or Firefox or IE8 or older to view the blog.

Big thank you to Bob and Walter for pointing out the problem.

Chuck

Well that was a surprise. IE9 really hated the text of the Xmas newsletter. Once I reformatted it all was well. Let me know if any other issues come up.

Thanks,
Chuck
