2011 CHRISTMAS NEWS LETTER

2011 CHRISTMAS NEWS LETTER

How time flies. Another year is ending as we look forward to Christmas, New Years, and the upcoming dance year. Your executive has remained essentially the same with the Bishops and the Witts volunteering to carry on for another year as Plus Coordinators. Barbara and I wish to welcome to the executive, Barry and Carol Scott as A2 Coordinators. We look forward to working with everyone in the New Year.

Due to continuing yearly losses and a reduction in overall assets for the club, it was decided and voted on at the AGM to increase the dance night entry fee to $12 per couple ($6 per person)

Dancing will commence on January 4th for A2 Group and January 5th for the Plus Group.

Our last night of dancing will be April 25th for A2 and April 26th for Plus

The number of dance nights for each group is 17. Therefore the breakdown for packages is:

(17 x $12) = $204 - $25 = $179 for each couple package

(singles packages at $89.50 per person)

The cost per dance night per person if they buy a package and attend all dances will be $5.25, even less for A2 members who wish to dance some plus nights.

Robbie Burns nights will be held on January 25th for the A2 night and January 26th for the plus night. Larry Gillott has graciously agreed to pipe in the Haggis for both nights again this year. The Plus night is expecting a visitation from both the Weavers and the Royal Swingers for their Robbie Burns’s tribute and Jean Baird will once again give her eloquent recital of the Ode to the Haggis.

Valentine dances will be held on February 8th for the A2 group and February 9th for the Plus group. We will celebrate our Easter dances on Wednesday April 4th and Thursday April 5th respectively for each dance night.

Brent has two great theme nights planned for the plus group. The much anticipated tribute to Frank Sinatra is coming on February 23rd. Brent is planning a special Surprise theme night sometime in April; the date has not been set as yet, it too is a surprise.

Christmas is usually the time of year that we count our Blessings. Our club is truly blessed with two of the best caller couples in the lower mainland in Ray and Christine Brendzy and Brent and Therese Mawdsley. We are also extremely lucky to have a premiere cuer couple like Alison and Scott Hampton. This year marks the 15th year that Alison and Scott have been with the club and as your President I was honored to mark that occasion by presenting a Bouquet of flowers from the club to Alison and Scott at the toys for Tots dance. Here’s wishing our cuer and caller family’s a very merry Christmas and the very best in the New Year. We all look forward to you keeping us on our toes and in the groove in the New Year.

Every year our non dance events promote the coming together of the dancers from both groups in an atmosphere of social camaraderie .Once again Barry and Elaine Bentley have agreed to organize and run our Bowling night. We expect that it will be another fun night for both groups.

In April, Barry and Elaine will once again look at getting a pub night organized. It is our only fund raiser this year so start thinking about your donations for the silent auction and setting some time aside to attend this fun party.

In May we can look forward to our annual Golf Tournament and Banquet that George Bruschinsky organizes so wonderfully year after year.

Merry Christmas to all from your executive and may the New Year bring you health, happiness and prosperity.

See you on the dance floor
